Carpenter Micro-Melt CD#1 is a high-performance, shock-resistant powder metallurgy cold work tool steel designed for extreme toughness and good wear resistance, often used in high-end cutlery and coining dies. It is a modern, modified version of "Vasco Tuf" featuring 8.25% chromium, 1.5% nickel, and 1% vanadium for an optimal balance of strength and toughness.

Key Properties of CD#1 Steel:
Extreme Toughness: Developed for applications requiring superior shock resistance, such as industrial coining dies (hence "CD"). Composition: Contains  Carbon, Chromium,  Nickel,  Molybdenum, and  Vanadium.
Wear Resistance: Offers better wear resistance than standard shock-resistant steels (like A2 or S7) and is comparable to D2.
Corrosion Resistance: Considered semi-stainless, providing better corrosion resistance than typical carbon steels (like 52100) due to its 8% chromium content.
